HR Certifications require time and dedication to learning specific topics conducive with working as a HR professional. Professional-level human resource positions require individuals to have education, certifications, and experience in order to qualify for certain positions in HR. There are several different certifications that you can obtain to help you move up from a newbie, Associate Professional in Human Resources (APHR), to a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), and all professional HR aspects in between. Pursuing your HR Certification requires researching the best training and sifting through the immense human resource training resources available. Finding the right HR Certificate program that works for your time, schedule, and budget is the essential first step. You want a quality, in-depth program that will prepare you for a career in human resources. The number of Certified Human Resource professionals is growing, but individuals are obtaining the best training in order to qualify for top positions. There are reputable training providers who offer the curriculum you need to obtain your HR Certification.
Two of the four most recognized HR certifications in the United States of America are the SHRM-CP®, and the SHRM-SCP®. The SHRM-CP stands for the Society of Human Resource Management Certified Professional, and the SHRM-SCP stands for the Society of Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional. Each certification has different requirements for candidates who wish to obtain them, and these can be found on the SHRM website.
According to SHRM.org, individuals who would like to obtain a SHRM certification will need to check the eligibility requirements first before signing up for training courses or the SHRM exam. Once you have determined your eligibility, you can sign up to take the SHRM exam for a member or nonmember price. If you sign up for the SHRM exam, you can select the early-bird exam for $300 USD (SHRM member) or $400 USD (nonmember). If you plan to take the standard exam, it will cost $375 USD (SHRM member) or $475 USD (nonmember). There will also be a $50 USD application processing fee for members and nonmembers.
According to SHRM.org, individuals who would like to obtain your SHRM certification will need to check the eligibility requirements first before signing up for training courses or the SHRM certification exam. Once you have determined your eligibility, completed your training courses, prepared for the exam, and submitted the application requirements, then you can sign up to take the SHRM certification exam at shrmcertification.org/apply. Once you have completed all 8 steps of the application process listed on SHRM’s website, then you can prepare to pass your exam.
The SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge is available to be downloaded for anyone who is studying for the SHRM exam. By using the SHRM BoCK as your guide, you are taking the first step to ease your woe, of course is hard, but you have a guide. The exam allots 4 hours for students to complete 160 test questions. Find a study partner, use affiliated study materials related to SHRM topics (listed in the SHRM BoCK), or take a few affiliated courses to prepare to pass the exam. According to The SHRM Blog, professional certification exams (of any kind) are not easy.
SHRM certifications are established for 3 years, but hold your horses, it is specifically calculated based on the date you took your exam and your birth month. The recertification cycle starts on the actual day you passed your exam and ends on the last day of your birth month. According to shrm.org, you can submit a request for recertification after one year of taking your exam. Make sure you completed all the required PDCs (professional development courses) before your submission. Once your request has been submitted, received, and approved, then your new 3-year recertification cycle starts again.
