You can take the SIE exam as long as you can demonstrate that you either have a job as a representative at a firm, or that you have equivalent knowledge. College students can atempt the SIE exam because it does not require a sponsoring firm or experience. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) does not require that you be sponsored by a firm to sit for the SIE exam, however, candidates must posess the knowledge needed to pass the exam applicable to their desired job function.
